November intentions: six slow ways to meet the darker days
November is the quiet month between the blaze of autumn and the sparkle of December. The days draw in, the trees let go and everything seems to invite us indoors. Rather than racing towards Christmas, it can be a lovely month to slow down, tend to home and set a few gentle intentions for the season ahead.
1. Welcome the dark with lantern light
Martinmas falls on 11 November, and the old tradition of the lantern walk is one of the simplest, loveliest ways to mark the turning season with children. Make a paper lantern together, sing a little song and walk out at dusk. Our Waldorf November rhythm for ages 3–5 brings together lantern crafts, verses, stories and nature walks, week by week.
2. Find a gentle weekly rhythm
Shorter days are easier when they have a familiar shape: baking on Mondays, a nature walk on Wednesdays, a candlelit story every evening. A rhythm isn't a timetable. It's a soft structure that gives everyone something to lean on. The Early Years weekly rhythm planner helps you sketch one out.
3. Give the house a gentle reset
Before the decorations come out, it feels good to clear some space. Choose one small zone a day, such as a drawer, a shelf or the coat hooks, and let go of what you no longer need. The home reset cleaning planner breaks it into easy, manageable steps.
4. Plan the weeks ahead on paper
A slow December starts with a calm November. Sit down once a week with a cup of tea and a pen, then plan meals, appointments and a little rest. An undated life planner lets you start any day you like, and a meal planner and grocery kit takes care of the "what's for tea?" question.
5. Notice the small wonders
Frost on a spider's web, the smell of woodsmoke, the first robin on the fence: November is full of quiet beauty if we pause long enough to see it. Write down one small wonder each day. The Small Wonders 30-day journal offers a gentle prompt for every day of the month.
6. Begin to dream about the year ahead
As the year winds down, it's natural to wonder what you'd love next. There's no rush. Just let the dreams arrive slowly, like seeds resting under the soil. Try a little scripting with our manifestation journal kit, or start shaping 2027 with the vision and goals workbook.
However you spend it, we hope your November feels soft, slow and full of lantern light. When you're ready for December, our seven gentle ways to a slower Christmas are waiting, and you'll find all our printables in the shop.
